The Terrace

Kintsugi Terrace is led by Yui, providing kintsugi ceramic and pottery restoration services in Toronto, incorporating only traditional Japanese techniques using Urushi tree lacquer.
All materials we use are of natural origin, no synthetic resins or adhesives are used in the restoration process, ensuring that your tableware remains food-safe and environmentally friendly after restoration.
We believe each piece of tableware has a story or memory to tell, especially the chips and cracks. One of the charms of kintsugi is the ability to restore such ware and give new beauty and uniqueness to the piece.
My Story

My kintsugi journey started in Fukuoka, the largest city in Japan’s southern Kyushu region, where I was born and raised. In search of a hobby, I took lessons at Kintsugi Yatsuka Studio headed by masters Satoru Yatsuka and Chiharu Yatsuka, who trained under worldwide well known kintsugi master Hiroki Kiyokawa. We practice the traditional method which relies on natural materials only, the most important being urushi [漆], an organic tree lacquer.
What had started as a hobby turned into indispensable moments of tranquility and meditation. I felt as if I were repairing myself and my broken pieces along with the broken ceramic in front of me. Kintsugi helped me overcome my toughest personal challenges and it has the potential to help many others as well. In 2022 I decided to move to Toronto, Canada, to share the method and philosophy. Kintsugi has had a profound impact in my life and hopefully it will benefit others as much as it has benefited me.
