Kintsugi restoration of a chipped Mino ware plate, and finished with 金消粉(24k gold-keshifun).

This Mino plate is special to me.
It is the first tableware that my husband and I purchased together when we got married and started our new life together. And also, it is the very first piece in which I did kintsugi restoration.

A few months after we bought it, I dropped it and its rim chipped off. I was heartbroken at that time, but continued to use it because it was a memorable and meaningful dish.
Then, I never expected that I would encounter kintsugi a few years later and be able to patch up these chips on my own. Now, with the kintsugi restoration, I am even more attached to this plate. The plate is still a most-used-tableware in our dining table. Having a meal in a ware that you adore satisfies both your heart and your stomach.

I believe each piece of tableware has a story or memory to tell, especially the chips and cracks. One of the charms of kintsugi is the ability to restore such ware and give new beauty and uniqueness to the piece.

欠けた美濃焼の平皿を、金継ぎ修復。

この器、実は私にとっては、非常に思い出が深いものなのです。
主人と結婚し、新生活を始める時に、一緒に初めて購入した食器です。そして、私が初めて金継ぎを施した食器です。

購入から数ヶ月で、手が滑って落としてしまい、縁が欠けてしまいました。その時は、大変ショックだったのですが、少々欠けた部分が気になりながらも思い出のあるものなので、普段使いとして、その後も愛用していました。
当時は、それから数年後に金継ぎと出会い、この欠けを、自分で手当てすることができようになるとは、思ってもいなかったものです。

今となっては、この金継ぎで装飾した平皿に対して更に愛着が湧き、我が家のスタメンとして、毎日大活躍中です。愛着のある器での食事は、心とお腹のどちらも満たしてくれます。

お手当したい器一つ一つには、持ち主にとって、大切な思い出や意味があったり愛着のあるものかと思います。欠けや割れにでさえストーリーがあるかもしれません。
そんな器を蘇らせ、欠けや割れにも美しさや個性を与えることができるのは、金継ぎの魅力の一つだと思っています。
